FAQs
(Jackie JJC Yoga Classes)
Do I need to book in advance?
Although it is preferable to know how many are coming to the class, the only advance bookings that are essential are if you wish to hire a mat, as there are only a limited number available.
How do I pay?
You can book online using your debit/credit card or pay at the venue with cash or card.
Is there parking?
Avenue Hall (Mondays): Free on-street parking after 6.30pm. A few metered places in nearby streets and an NCP Car Park by Waitrose nearby.
SWCA (Tuesdays): There's a private car park - no charge.
What should I wear?
Clothes you can move in. Remember that you'll be bending forward in some postures and taking your legs wide in others, so clothes that will stay in place (and keep everything in place!) when you practice these poses.
Bring along an extra layer for he final relaxation, as your temperature will drop when you stop moving
Is Gentle Yoga just lying on the floor doing easy stretches?
Although it can mean that, it is not the case in my classes. We will practice postures standing and lying down and maybe a few seated. Our focus will be on improving mobility and building strength as well as stretching. NEVER CONFUSE GENTLENESS WITH WEAKNESS!
Are the classes fast?
NO! The focus in all the classes is moving slowly and smoothly, so you can find what feels good for your unique body. WE USE MUSCLES, NOT MOMENTUM!
What if I can't do something?
I can usually find a variation of a posture that will be accessible to you. But if you ever want to skip a pose, then you are always free to stop and return your awareness to your breath. Teaching PEOPLE, Not Postures
I do a lot of yoga, will Gentle Yoga be too easy for me?
It depends what you're looking for. If you want a faster-paced, vinyasa-style class or to practice inversions, these classes are not for you. But if you're looking to refine your technique, take time out to just focus on you, and maybe explore a few more challenging variations of a posture, then it would be ideal.
Will there be lots of chanting?
No. Although I attend classes where there is chanting, I am in no way qualified to lead chants (plus you REALLY don't want to hear my squawking voice!!).
Can I watch a class to see if I would like it?
No. Someone watching the class changes the atmosphere and can make some students feel self-conscious. It can also make some students push themselves to "perform", instead of focusing on how they feel. You don't have to book a course or a term, so try a class and, if you don't return, then no hard feelings.
