Although it is preferable to know how many are coming to the class, the only advance bookings that are essential are if you wish to hire a mat, as there are only a limited number available.
You can book online using your debit/credit card or pay at the venue with cash or card. Select the appropriate option when you book your space.
Avenue Hall (Mondays): Free on-street parking after 6.30pm. A few metered places in nearby streets and an NCP Car Park by Waitrose nearby.
SWCA (Tuesdays): There's a private car park - no charge.
Clothes you can move in. Remember that you'll be bending forward in some postures and taking your legs wide in others, so clothes that will stay in place (and keep everything in place!) when you practice these poses.
No. Although I attend classes where there is chanting, I am in no way qualified to lead chants (plus you REALLY don't want to hear my squawking voice!!).

Class Descriptions
Here is an overview of all the different classes on the menu at Jackie JJC Yoga.
Slow Flow Yoga
A mat-based class where we move slowly between different postures, allowing time to explore different variations and tailor the practice to your own needs. Some postures are held for longer periods to build strength.

Expect standing, balancing and sitting postures, as well as those lying on the mat.

Chair Yoga
Yoga without the up and down to the floor.

Chair Yoga is a great way to keep the body mobile for those who, for whatever reason, find a mat-based class is not right for them.

Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is available as an on-demand recorded session.
It is sometimes referred to as yogic sleep, although the aim is to remain awake in a state of conscious awareness between wakefulness and sleep. There is no movement in this practice so you set yourself up on your mat or bed with as many pillows, cushions and blankets you need to feel completely comfortable.

Restorative Yoga
Based down on the floor, a Restorative Yoga class involves long-held passive postures supported by props. The objective is to find deep rest and relaxation. If you are practising online, then you may prefer to use your bed instead of the floor. At home, pillows, cushions and blankets can be used if traditional yoga props are not available.
Comfort is key in every posture so, as always in my classes, I suggest different variations for you to find the best for your body.

What to expect
in your class
-
I teach in English and always explain any Sanskrit used.
 -
I explain why we are practising a particular posture, using easy-to-understand language.
 -
I offer options for postures throughout the class and you are encouraged to find the variation that suits your own unique body.
 -
You are always free to take a break at any time in a class.
 -
I never push or pull anyone into position.
 -
I teach some basic breathing exercises but, as with the physical practice, there is no compulsion to join in.
 -
I introduce aspects of yoga philosophy in a way that is relevant to our modern world.
 -
Classes end with Savasana (total rest). This is a vital part of the class, allowing the practice to fully integrate in the body and mind.
