About Jackie

I have a lifelong love of yoga

I grew up watching my mother practice yoga - something she continued throughout most of her adult life.

I have had a regular yoga practice for over 30 years, taking classes in many different styles, and know how much yoga has helped me through life's many changes.

This practice deepened and yoga became more of a way of life following a trip to Kerala in Southern India in the early 2000s.

My background is in the corporate world

I spent over two decades in the demanding environment of administration within the financial industry. This gave me first-hand experience of how yoga can aid in managing and reducing levels of stress, as well as helping with focus and concentration.

Late 2016 into early 2017 were six months of change in my life, including being made redundant. These changes freed me to enrol on the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Diploma course, so I could share the benefits of yoga with others. Since then, I have completed many more courses, and have also had the honour of assisting Anna Ashby on her Restorative Yoga Teacher Training Course at Triyoga.

Yoga is for all stages of life. Both my mother's yoga journey and the writings of Desikachar have shaped my non-dogmatic and inclusive style of teaching.

Get to know me better

Back in the 1980s I taught aerobics classes. Yes, jumping jacks and grapevines whilst wearing leotard and tights with coordinating leg warmers and hair band. I still favour a hair band when teaching to keep my hair out of my eyes but my classes are a lot less frenetic these days.

When I am not on a yoga mat, you can find me pottering around my jungle of a garden, out walking on Wimbledon Common or in Richmond Park (occasionally climbing a tree, which is something I tried for the first time in my 50s), or exploring London's many galleries and museums.

However, quite often you'll find me making a fuss of the local cats and dogs - all of whom I know by name, even if I don't know their owner's name.
